'The History of Langwith' author Tony Warrener

The new edition of Tony's book is now available at a cost of £10.00 (collect)

The book includes photographs and talks about early history of the area up to present day.  Find out why our streets are named as they are! What happened at the cotton mill, school, colliery, farms, churches and about local people.

We also have available a CD of 200 +recent photographs (2006 - 2008) 'All the Langwiths' at a cost of £5.00 (collect) or £7.50 to include post & packaging.

Did you know about the munitions factory at Langwith?  It played a very important role in the war years.  Tony Warrener has put together a slide show about it and he is available to come out and give the talk for a small fee.  Contact us about it!!

COMMUNITY SHOP - after a successful programme of table top sales at the museum the community have opened a new and used goods shop to support us and other local projects.  SNAPPAbargain.com is located on Main Street Whaley Thorns and is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.30 am till 3.30 pm.

WALKS PROGRAMME - Our walks begin on Sunday March 1st and the one is Sunday 6th December.

Further dates are -  Sunday 22nd November and finally Wednesday 2nd December and Sunday 6th December

Sunday walks commence 2pm and Wednesday walks 10am.  Walks vary from 4 - 7 miles and all have a guide. Lunch is provided after the Wednesday walks (order please before you set off).

To get a brochure with the full programme give us a call on 01623 747601.  The final programmed walk for the year is Sunday 6th December however an extra event has been arranged for Wednesday 16th December commencing 10am.  This will be followed with a delicious Christmas buffet (£6.00 per head)

FAMILY HISTORY

We have the facility to trace your ancestors.  Our researcher is here on Wednesday morning between 10:00 am and 12 noon to help you to start the process.  The charge is £2.50 per session (subject to increase) new applicants for 2010

If you would like the work done for you we have a package available.  £50.00 (half payable on application) will get you a trace dating back to the 1880's on either your maternal or paternal side.  We have a registration form so that you can get started.  The price includes putting all information on a disk or just a print out of all paperwork.  If the search is unsuccessful we will refund your deposit. Local adults or visitors may use our internet facility at a small charge on Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm

Volunteer recruitment:

We are always on the look out for people who would like to help in the museum.  Would you offer a few hours to talk to visitors as they come in or are you happier in the background doing computer work or cleaning.  Call us to discuss your preference and times needed. We desparately need volunteers on alternate Saturdays
